    Impact of Medical Libraries on Clinical Decision-Making in Pakistan

    Medical libraries play a very active role in quenching the information thirst of their users. Library users of medical libraries are life savers. The focus of this study is on the impact of medical libraries on clinical decisions of the medical practitioners in Pakistan. Quantitative research approach was used to undergo the study. Journals were reported as the most used library resources in the medical libraries under study. Medical literature placed in these libraries have a great impact on the clinical decisions of the medical doctors working in hospitals of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Provision of latest, relevant and sufficient medical literature to the libraries of these medical libraries is the cry of the day

    Publication Trends Of Pakistan Heart Journal: A Bibliometric Study

    Objective:This paper aims to describe bibliometric study of scholarly literature published in Pakistan Heart Journalcoveringperiod from 2005 to 2015 and to explore publication trends. Methodology:This quantitative study applied required bibliometric methods to analyze Originalarticles, authorship pattern, citations, contributions from different regions and other relevant parameters of Pakistan Heart Journal covering period from January 2005 to June 2015. The data is collected from Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Library. Results:The study reveals that number of articles published in each issue of the journal ranges from 09 to 44. In regard to productivity, male authors hadhighest contribution (90.84%) and majority of authors belonged to Khyber Pukhtunkhwareion(41.69%). The finding shows that Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar had the highest research productivity in the region. Cardiologyis main subject area covered in the articles with Ischemic heart disease as leading topic (23%) followed by Preventive cardiology (19.47%). Articles with three authors were more in numbers (24.03%). Journal (95.36%) proved to be the more cited source of information.Variation was found in the number of references cited in each article, 38.67% (87) articles have 11-20 references. Article’s length was also analyzed and it was revealed thatmajority (30.22%) of articles were comprised of threepages. Conclusion: The Study investigated that the frequency of Pakistan Heart Journal found irregular with gradual increase in number of articles. Significantincrease in number of articles had been seen in the last five years.Being a special journal about heart diseases, largernumber of articles was on Ischemic heart disease followed by Preventivecardiology

    INFORMATION NEEDS AND SEEKING BEHAVIOUR OF POST GRADUATE STUDENTS OF KOHAT UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA, PAKISTAN

    Purpose: This study investigated the information needs and seeking behaviour, hurdles to information seeking of Post Graduate students of Kohat University of Science and Technology, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It focused on the information requirements of the Post Graduate students of the university, the pattern they use for seeking information, the difficulties they faced during seeking information. Design/Methodology/approach: This study used a quantitative approach, adapting a survey questionnaire method for data collection. The population of this study was composed of M.Phil. and PhD students of 2019 and 2020 in the faculties of Physical and Numerical Sciences, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Social Sciences of KUST. The sample size was 260. Students were selected randomly. The study response rate was 77% and data were analyzed through SPSS (22 version). Key findings: The study revealed that Most students\u27 information needs were for study and research activities, new knowledge, and for career development. To fulfil these needs, the scholars use various sources and resources. The sources they used for information needs were Journal Articles, Textbooks, and Research Projects commonly. For the information-seeking purpose, often, students preferred books that have some importance. The other factors that played an essential role in selecting material were topical relevance, Novelty, Recommended by colleagues, and publisher’s reputation. Most of the students thought that Book Exhibitions, Open Access systems in the Library, and the Display of new arrivals could enhance the students\u27 information-seeking. The main problems during seeking information were faced by them were shortage of printed information resources. Overall they wanted more facilities, enhancement in the library collection and better services. Delimitations of the study: This study has not included 1) BS and M.Sc. Students of KUST; 2) The colleges and institutions affiliated with KUST; 3) This study was delimited only to the Post Graduate students of KUST. Practical implication(s): The findings of the study motivate the policy makers, authorities of KUST to restructure the information literacy programs to fulfil the scholars’ information needs. It may inform the policy makers to know the difficulties faced by scholars during information seeking. Contribution to the knowledge: No significant work has been done on the students\u27 Information Needs and Seeking Behaviour at KUST. The Study analyzed the Information Needs and Seeking Behaviour of Post Graduate students. It brought a clear picture of information needs and seeking behaviour of scholars and addressed the problems faced by them during seeking process

    The Assessment of Information Literacy skills among Faculty members of the Medical Colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-Pakistan

    ABSTRACT Purpose of the study: The main theme of this study is to assess faculty members\u27 information literacy skills in public sector medical colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Design/Methodology/approach: The quantitative research approach was used to conduct and accomplish the study\u27s objectives. The faculty members serving at public sector medical colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa southern region. was the population of the study. The adapted questionnaires of (Jan & Bahtti, 2018; Ullah, 2015; Sharma & Lata, 2019; and Rafique, 2014) were used to collect data from the respondents. Key findings: Majority of the public sector medical college faculty recognizes the various sources of information, and they use both printed and online materials to identify needed information. The majority of faculty at these medical colleges consults monographs/textbooks regularly, preceded by online journals/medical databases. Faculty members possess the skills to locate and access the sources of needed information. Delimitations of the study: This study is delimited to three public sector medical colleges operate in southern districts: of Khyber Medical University Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Kohat, the Gomal Medical College (GMC) in Dera Ismail Khan, and the Bannu Medical College (BMC) in Bannu. Practical implication(s): The findings of the study will motivate the policy makers and authorities of these three medical colleges in southern region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to enhance the information literacy skills of medical faculty. This practice will result into an effective medical education in the province.     Examining E-readiness In Libraries of Public Sector Universities Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-Pakistan

    This research has investigated the level of e-readiness in public sector university libraries located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-Pakistan. The study aimed to assess the presence of human resources, electronic infrastructure, network services, and programs in these libraries. The target population consisted of twenty-seven public sector university libraries in the region. The research utilized a quantitative approach and employed a questionnaire-based survey to gather data from the librarians or individuals in charge of these libraries. The collected data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 22 (SPSS). The findings revealed that the respondents\u27 satisfaction regarding their knowledge of libraries was low or moderate, as indicated by mean scores below 3. Similarly, the satisfaction levels concerning electronic infrastructure, network services, and programs, as well as the role of libraries in the digital world, were rated as average or below. Based on the results, the study recommended significant transformations in various aspects of public-sector university libraries. To achieve this, the government should allocate necessary resources and provide facilities to meet the informational and recreational needs of the population. Improvements are required in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure of these libraries, including the availability of computer equipment, databases, network servers, multimedia projectors, digital cameras, uninterruptible power supply, scanners, and backup devices such as hard discs and Digital Video Disc/compact Dis

    INFORMATION NEEDS AND SEEKING BEHAVIOR OF DISTANCE AND REGULAR UNDERGRADUATE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS OF KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA-PAKISTAN

    The main theme of this study is to investigate the information needs and seeking behavior of distance and regular Library and Information undergraduate students studying at different public sector universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-Pakistan. Quantitative research method was used to carry out this research study. Adopted questionnaire was used as data collection tool. A total of 299 questionnaires were distributed among the respondents and 213 questionnaires were received. It was depicted that lectures and course books were the prime needed information of both groups for their academic qualifications. The prime needed information of both groups was found as “Information on course of study”, followed by Scholarships for onward education, job opportunities, postgraduate education and career development. It is recommended that with provision of course related information; some efforts should be made for provision of extra services like career development, job facilitation, scholarships searching and information for further education

    Due to the rapid development of the Internet and communication technologies, social media has become an essential part of our daily lives. It enables people to interact and share information without being limited by location or time. Consequently, social media\u27s influence has extended to various aspects of society, including higher education. Students in higher educational institutions now utilize social media for both academic and non-academic purposes. Therefore, it has become crucial to understand how social media affects students\u27 academic performance. Although many studies have explored the use of social media in higher education, there remains a significant gap in understanding its impact on students\u27 academic performance. Existing literature indicates a lack of comprehensive models and frameworks to summarize this impact. Thus, the objective of this study is to examine and evaluate how social media influences on female students\u27 academic performance of Khushal khan Khattak university. This study explores the perceptions of students from different academic years and faculties regarding the impact of social media on academic performance. The findings indicate a lack of consensus among students, with mixed beliefs and attitudes across various contexts and factors related to social media. The results suggest that perceptions may vary based on academic year, with potential changes over time. Additionally, the study reveals faculty-specific perspectives, indicating that academic disciplines may influence students\u27 perceptions. Overall, the findings emphasize the complexity and diversity of these perceptions, highlighting the need for further research and tailored interventions to address students\u27 specific concerns and challenges in different contexts. By understanding these perceptions, educational institutions can provide appropriate support and guidance to help students effectively navigate the opportunities and challenges posed by social media in their academic pursuit
